10% pay cut for Post Fiji Workers
In a statement issued in the last hour, Post Fiji CEO Joape Kuinikoro confirms that due to the slow revenue turnover of the company which has resulted in a very unexpected and disappointing financial result.
Kuinikoro said the decision was been taken in consultation with the board and one that was reached after much deliberation as the management of Post Fiji had talks with the staff to explain the situation, and whilst the staff raised genuine concerns, they have been cooperative and appreciative of the situation.
He stressed that in past years, under similar circumstances, Post Fiji's 180 casual workers would just have been laid off.
The 10 percent pay cut will be restored on January 1st, 2010.
However, the Post and Telecom Workers General Secretary Attar Singh said they rejected the Company pay cut proposal after looking at their financial records.
Singh said they will contemplate further action if the pay cut is undertaken.
