Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there is no excuse whatsoever for the acts of terror in Paris and especially in the name of God because this is not God’s way.

While speaking at the Memorial Service for the Paris terrorist attack victims, Sayed-Khaiyum says no killing of any individual in this manner can be justified.

He says people the world over have the right to live their lives free from the threat of terror.

The Acting Prime Minister says our common humanity demands that we respect whatever path of faith we choose to take as individuals.

Sayed-Khaiyum says no creed and no member of the human family has a monopoly on righteousness.

He says we are one before God and will face God’s judgment and his alone when the time comes.

Sayed-Khaiyum says these terrorists were not defending Islam. He says they were not defending God.

He says infact, they took the lives of their own faith, ordinary French citizens, just as they have taken the lives of many who also follow the teachings of Islam in those areas under their control.

The Acting Prime Minister says people in Fiji stand with the people of France and the entire world in condemning these attacks and any similar atrocity.

He says aside from the 130 people who were killed, some 350 more were injured. Many of these are still in intensive care, some of them with horrific injuries.

130 candles were lit yesterday at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral Church in memory of the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.

Sayed-Khaiyum, French Ambassador to Fiji Michel Djokovic and members of the public attended a Memorial Service for the victims.
