In this era of the mobile phone and satellite communication technology, one would have thought that the days of the landline telephone services would someday become a thing of the past.

However, Telecom Fiji Limited's landline customers are increasing with around 150,000 customers at the moment, on par with figures from last year.

TFL said its landlines customer base has seen an increase as their customers can now opt for either the fixed landline or wireless landline phone services.

It said while there is a global trend towards mobile communications, TFL is expanding its offering to ensure that they have a sustainable and profitable business in the long term.

Telecom Fiji said despite the technological advances, customers and especially those in rural areas prefer landlines as not only are the call rates much lower but geographical location means they can only have access to telecommunications via landline services.
