The Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa is calling on public discussion and the need to review the 2013 Constitution.
Ro Teimumu says a Constitution is an evolving document and not something cast in stone.
She says the country has had four constitutions since its independence with an average life of 11 years for each document.
Ro Teimumu says the 1970 Constitution was made in London under the guidance of the British government and reflected the desire on the part of Britain and Fiji to reach an amicable solution to the constitutional discussions, transfer power and propel Fiji into nationhood to seek a future for itself.
She says after the events of 1987, the 1990 Constitution was seen as a transitional measure to return Fiji to a fully fledged democracy with constitutional status for the Bose Levu Vakaturaga with entrenched group rights for the communities living in Fiji.
The Leader of Opposition believes while the1997 Constitution retained the features of the 1990 Constitution, it paved the way forward for Fiji to become a more democratic and just society by prescribing for a compact to resolve conflicts, power sharing and mechanism for checks and balances in the governmental system.
She says the Opposition views the 2013 Constitution as a transitional measure whose review like the 1990 Constitution is inevitable.
Ro Teimumu says SODELPA has grave doubts about the electoral system, checks and balances system, bill of rights and lack of mechanism for conflict resolution and power sharing.
